Cannabis use was not associated with increased risk for developing mood or anxiety disorders

In recent article published in the JAMA Psychiatry the conclusion that Cannabis use did not have an affect on mood or anxiety disorders was the general outcome. However, the negative side was that it may have increased the addictions of it users. JAMAThese addictions included Nicotine, Cannabis and Alcohol. The study was done on over 34,000+ respondents. A conclusion that seems to be drawn from this  is that if Cannabis is used medically that the doctors should monitor for abuse or addiction and take appropriate action. For full explanation of the study visit the JAMA Psychiatry article.  For a slightly more simplified explanation visit Yahoo’s page “New Study Finds Cannabis Doesn’t Cause Clinical Anxiety or Depression“.

Yahoo’s summary was But the findings weren’t all positive. Weed may not increase your likelihood of developing an anxiety disorder, but it was linked to a “significantly increased risk for developing alcohol, cannabis and other drug use disorders,” according to the study. That included nicotine dependence, too.

In comparison to opioid use for pain this seems like it could be easier to manage.
